Application & Policies for Separately Metered Outdoor & Hydrant Water Fixtures   Back to Top
The City of Wheaton allows a waiver of sewer charges, for water used for outdoor lawn care purposes.  In order to qualify for the rate, you must complete the Application for Separate Outdoor Water Service, and submit the form (with deposit, if applicable) for approval to the City Council.  Cost and maintenance of the meter, including installation, are the property owner's responsibility. 

Please carefully review the Outdoor Water Service & Metering Policy, if you wish to install water service that can be monitored a permanent meter, prior to your submission of an application.

Please carefully review the Outdoor Water Service & Metering Policy for Fixtures with Removable Meters, if you with to install a water service that will require a meter to be removed seasonally.

Curb-Side Garbage Pick-Up - Garbage will be picked-up once a week, according to the following schedule:

Mondays:  North of Broadway Avenue.

Thursdays:  Broadway Ave, South of Broadway Avenue, Dumont, and Rural Pick-Up.

Cost -  Base fee of $6.00, tax of $0.59.  Garbage bags must have a Garbage Tag attached, depending on the size of the bag (yellow tags for 15 gallon bags, red tags for 40 gallon bags). 

Tags are available at Willy's, Sag's, Homer's, and City Hall for purchase in bundles.  Red tags cost $12 per 10 tags, and yellow tags cost $6 for 10 tags.

 

Dumpsters - Businesses may purchase and own their own dumpster.  Residential users may rent temporarily, by the month - no long term rentals.

Cost - 1.5 Yard Dumpster - $40 Rental per Month, $10.00 for each DumpSanitation truck - Keeping our city clean!

Watertower

 

Water service is currently charged at $6.00 + $.03 per cubic foot

Sewer service is currently charged at $6.00 + $.04 per cubic foot

A cubic foot is approximately 7.48 gallons.

The Wheaton City Council recently approved the following utility rate increases, effective 01/01/09:

Water Rate

$6.00 + $.035 per C.F.; no discount for usage > 2000 C.F.

Revenue will be directed toward interior and exterior water tower coating ($110,00) and Variable

Frequency Pump Drives ($16,000).

Sewer Rate

No Increase Determined

Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is mandating that the City's sewer be repaired; it is unknown at

this time what improvements will be needed.

Garbage Rate

$7.00 + $.69 tax

Current garbage truck will need to be replaced ($150,000).

Compost Piles - Are open 24/7 for compost, grass, leaves, and branch disposal.  There are designated bunkers outside the Demo Site's main gate that are free of charge for small branches, leaves, and garden rubbish.

Abuse of free disposal will result in locked gates and charges.
 
Demolition Site - Open 3 pm - 6 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesday to area residents, May - October.

Open by appointment for a $15.00; contact 320/563-4110 to schedule an appointment date and time.

Charges are based on the type and amount of materials.  Please note that the Demo Site can only        accept accept the following materials - it is not considered a garbage "dump."

Solid waste resulting from the demolition of buildings, roads, & other man-made structures,        including:

untreated wood masonry bituminous concrete
glass plastic building parts  
"Inert" waste resulting from the construction of buildings, roads, & other man-made structures,      including: Microwaves & TV's $15.00

glass rock metal building parts

Cost to bring Approved Materials to the Demolition Site: Microwaves & TV's $15.00
Pick-Up Truck $6.00 per load + .60 Tax

Small or Large Trailer $7.00 per cubic yard + .60 Tax

Single or Tandem Axle $7.00 per cubic yard + .60 Tax

Other Collection Services - Other items - such as appliances and furniture - can be disposed of through City Hall, for a fee, and brought to the City Shop on 12th Street. We recommend contacting Jack's Recycling or Hormann's Recycling, to verify whether either of these organizations will take your unwanted items.  Otherwise, you may pay the following to have these items disposed of:
Couch, Chair, Mattress $10.00

Microwaves and Televisions $15.00

Water Heater/Washer/Dryer/Stove $7.00
